As the global shipping industry accelerates its decarbonization efforts, methanol has emerged as a leading alternative fuel. This shift is driven by the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) ambitious targets for reducing carbon emissions in maritime transport. Recent orders and developments in methanol-powered vessels highlight the industry’s commitment to this transition.
The growing interest in methanol as a marine fuel is evident in substantial orders for methanol-powered ships. Singapore-based company has ordered twelve 13,000 TEU methanol dual-fuel containerships scheduled for delivery by 2027. Similarly, the Chinese bulk carrier company has signed a deal for up to ten methanol dual-fuel bulk carriers.
These orders underscore the shipping industry’s proactive approach to adopting greener fuels.
