High-density polyethylene (HDPE) is considered the largest volume polyethylene in the world. It has a high degree of tensile strength. It is most commonly found in household plastic containers.
Low-density polyethylene (LDPE) on the other hand, was the first developed type of polyethylene. It is commonly used within households in the form of flexible packaging. Both HDPE and LDPE are also often used for moulding applications. Linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) is often slightly cheaper to produce than LDPE and has similar basic properties. They can often be used interchangeably, however, some specific applications require specific types of polyethene: either LDPE or LLDPE.
